WHO CAN TRAIN AS AN IMAGO THERAPIST? One of two training paths can be followed: CLINICAL TRACK TRAINING Possession of an advanced degree (Masters or Doctorate degree) in the mental health or pastoral counseling fields is required. Membership to a recognized professional association, e.g. Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA), South African Council for Social Service Professions (SACSSP), or South African Association of Social Workers in Private Practice (SAASWIPP), is required. An Imago website listing is available to Certified Imago Therapists© who have paid their membership fee to Imago Relationships International (IRI) through ImagoAfrica. |

EDUCATIONAL TRACK TRAINING This track is designed for non-clinicians or those not eligible to become Certified Imago Therapists© and for those who are not seeking certification, e.g. spouses of therapists, religious ministers, attorneys, teachers, physicians, or therapists who only want to learn the skills of Imago Relationship Therapy, but are not planning on becoming a Certified Imago Therapist©. Those going the route of the educational track will not be certified at the end of training. Their training will be of a purely educational nature and they will not be able to use the terms “Certified Imago Therapist©”, “Imago Therapist”, or “Trained in Imago Therapy” in any advertising material. Non-certified therapists will not be listed on the Imago website. Non-certified therapists who work in a coaching/counselling field with couples and who have paid their membership fee to Imago Relationships International through ImagoAfrica will be listed in a printed directory. |
HOW DOES ONE GET IMAGO ACCREDITATION? Accreditation is received only after all workshops have been completed and practical work is completed and evaluated. HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE? Clinical training takes place over three workshops of about eighteen days in total. There is a break of around three or four months between workshops where therapists are required to put their training into practice and videotape their sessions for evaluation. Candidates will be assessed during the next workshop and feedback both from their peers and the trainer will be provided. |
WHAT IS THE PROCEDURE? The first step in becoming an Imago therapist is to attend an Imago “Getting the Love You Want …” workshop with your life partner, a close friend, or business associate. Please click on the Workshop Calendar tab to your left for more information on the dates and venues of “Getting the Love You Want …” workshops. Once such a workshop has been attended, clinical training can be booked.
